Before I even begin to write this I'll have to warn you that if you are someone who is easily offended you might want to go ahead and stop reading this. If you do continue reading and decide that you don't agree with me that's fine, but any efforts to try to change my mind would be a complete and total waste. My next few blogs are going to be about religion and all the things surrounding it. I'm going to go into detail about how and why I feel the way I do about God and religion. If you're still reading it's not too late to stop.
What I really feel about Holidays has kind of been something I've kept to myself for quite sometime trying not to offend anyone, but in light of recent events, I guess it's time for the truth of the matter to really come out.Not one holiday is Christian. No matter how hard you try to make them about God no holiday is truly for God what so ever. Holidays are for man and man alone. We celebrate them solely to benefit ourselves.
Let's start with Christmas. Every time I heard people say "Remember the reason for the season" I just want to shake my head. Jesus is NOT the reason we celebrate. Ever wonder why in the world we all put up trees and decorate them with lights and ornaments and things? Ever wonder what in the world all that has to do with Jesus' birth? You can stop wondering now because I'll tell you it has absolutely NOTHING to do with it. The truth is we don't even know when Jesus was actually born, but it probably wasn't in December.
The truth is all the traditions we now have at Christmas time all came from various pagan rituals. The Church way back when wanted these pagans to come to church so they said "you can still have your celebrations we'll just call it a celebration of Jesus' birthday so that way God will be cool with it" and boom there you have it. No where in the Bible does it tell us to celebrate Jesus' birthday. It doesn't tell us when and it doesn't tell us how. I know I usually give references, but there is so much to do with Christmas and where it came from that I don't have time or room on my block. If you don't believe me look it up.
Now we'll move on to Easter. At least with Christmas they changed the name to "Christ-Mass" so that it at least sounded Christian, but the word Easter which is still called Easter on the calender is is derived from Eostre, a Teutonic goddess of spring and fertility. It later became easter through a German translational error.. I'm dead serious! Look it up! All the things we use at easter are all symbols of fertility, eggs are a symbol of new life, and bunnies have huge litters in the spring. Back in the day eggs were hidden for young women to find and those who found an egg were said to be blessed with a child the following year.
Just the same as Christmas the church said "well the Jews are celebrating passover, and the pagans got their thing and we got nothing. Let's take Easter can make it ours and use it to honor God and then maybe some of those pagans will come to church when they see how cool we can be!"
And there you have it! Funny thing is these holidays that are so sacred in the Christian world and are said to be honoring Jesus go back to before Jesus ever walked on our earth. I'm not saying that Christians should put a halt on all religious practices or anything of the such. I myself went to Church for Easter, but I am saying that before you make these Holidays solely God's day and talk about how sacred they are remember that since they were never meant to be celebrated in honor of God in the first place it's ok to have a little fun. The only day God tells us to commemorate his last supper and to remember the sabbath and keep it holy.
so to all my Christian friends out there, eat your bread, drink your wine, and remember the sabbath and keep it holy. As for me and my house we will continue to enjoy our easter candy :)
